| Q:
What is alternative, holistic, integrative
and complementary medicine? |
Alternative
medicine is any healing practice "that
does not fall within the realm of
conventional medicine" (Bratman,
MD, Steven (1997). The Alternative
Medicine Sourcebook. Lowell House.
p. 7). It is frequently grouped with
complementary medicine, which generally
refers to the same interventions when
used in conjunction with mainstream
techniques, under the umbrella term
complementary and alternative medicine,
or CAM (Cassileth BR, Deng G (2004).
"Complementary and alternative
therapies for cancer". The Oncologist
9 (1): 80–9 and The Desktop
Guide to Complementary and Alternative
Medicine).
Holistic medicine is a concept in
medical practice upholding that all
aspects of people's needs, psychological,
physical and social, should be taken
into account and seen as a whole.
As defined above, the holistic view
on treatment is widely accepted in
medicine.
Studies indicate that alternative
approaches are often used in conjunction
with conventional medicine. This is
referred to as integrative (or integrated)
medicine because it "combines
treatments from conventional medicine
and CAM for which there is some high-quality
evidence of safety and effectiveness."
According to Andrew T. Weil M.D.,
a leading proponent of integrative
medicine, the principles of integrative
medicine include: appropriate use
of conventional and CAM methods; patient
participation; promotion of health
as well as treatment of disease; and
a preference for natural, minimally-invasive
methods. |

| Q: Does
Dr. Setzler accept health insurance? |
| As of
this time, Dr. Setzler is in network
with several major health insurers
and accepts patients who are out-of-network
from other insurers. Because of the
uncertain future of the health care
insurance industry, Dr. Setzler may
find it necessary to drop some insurers,

and go to strict credit card, debit
card or cash payment for services.
At the present time, Dr. Setzler accepts
all forms of payment for his services.
Dr. Setzler’s staff will help

| Q: What
is bio-identical, natural, compounded
hormone therapy? |
| Bio-identical
natural hormone therapy is a term
used to describe therapy with hormones
that are identical in structure, chemical
composition, size, and function to
hormones that are produced in the
human body. These hormones are usually
produced from plant sources and are
a natural product in that aspect as
well. The hormone prescription is
put together (compounded) by a trained
licensed pharmacist in a special area
in his pharmacy using special techniques
to insure accurate dosing, purity,
strength and bio-availability (ability
for your body to properly absorb and
use the hormones). Dr. Setzler will
require salivary testing of the hormone
levels to insure that the prescribed
dose is appropriate for you. |
| Q: What
is chelation therapy? |
| Chelation
therapy is a non-conventional, alternative,
and admittedly controversial therapy
for the treatment for degenerative
disorders. Dr. Setzler has special
training in chelation therapy and
is certified in chelation therapy
by the American College for Advancement
in Medicine. Chelation therapy has
been used safely for many years as
a treatment for heavy metal toxicity
and is recognized by conventional
medicine practitioners as effective
for that disorder. Chelation therapy
has also been used to treat numerous
conditions such as heavy metal toxicity,
coronary artery disease, peripheral
vascular disease, osteoarthritis,
and other degenerative diseases (Textbook
of Chelation Therapy edited by Elmer
Cranston, MD). Chelation therapy is
not covered by third party insurance
payers, Medicare or Medicaid. |
